All Veterans (Or Families Of Vets)

It doesn't matter if you are a veteran or not.  Please read and forward this to all your e-mail buddies.  It needs to go viral.  If you are not a veteran send this to those that you know who are, or to those who may know veterans.

The 2014 United States elections will be held on Tuesday, November 4, 2014. During this midterm election year, all 435 seats in the United States House of Representatives and 33 of the 100 seats in the United States Senate will be contested in this election. Get out and VOTE!!!!

A movement has been started by our armed forces to get out the vote in 2014.. They are organizing themselves, but this can be done by all of us. The President, the Commander in Chief, has made the Rules of Engagement (ROE) so difficult, that our troops are often killed before they can even get permission to fight. Nothing has been done to stop our troops from being murdered by the Afghan's they are training, either.

Now, the President wants the US to sign on to the UN's International Criminal Court (ICC), which would allow the UN's ICC to arrest and try US troops for War Crimes, without the legal protections guaranteed under US Law, and from which there is no appeal. The President, with his Democratic control of the Senate, has nearly all the power. If the Non-Establishment Republicans, and Conservatives, can take back the Senate in 2014, our troops can once again be protected from unnecessary danger. Please consider this, and send it on to your mailing lists.

Interestingly enough, when George W. Bush was president you heard about the military deaths in Iraq and Afghanistan almost daily. With Obama in the White House, the mainstream media has been strangely quiet. ---

More than 1,000 American soldiers have lost their lives in Afghanistan in the last 27 months. This is more than the combined total of the nine years before. Thirty have died in August. During the last month, over 50 additional NATO and US servicemen have been murdered, inside jobs by those who are hired to be a force for good in Afghanistan.

The commander in chief is AWOL. Not a peep, although he ordered the White House flag flown at half-staff for the Sikhs that were killed. There is a deep disgust, a fury, growing in the ranks of the military against the indifferent incompetence of this president.

It has taken on a dangerous tone. No one knows what to do about him, but the anger runs deep as the deaths continue with no strategic end in sight to the idiocy of this war. Obama has had 4 years to end this futile insanity, during which time he has vacationed, golfed, campaigned, and generally ignored the plight of our men and women in uniform. But, there is now a movement afoot in the armed services to launch a massive get out the vote drive against this president.

Not just current active duty types, but the National Guard, Reserves, the retired, and all other prior service members. This is no small special interest group, but many millions of veterans who can have an enormous impact on the outcome of the November election if they all respond.

The one million military retirees in Florida alone could mean an overwhelming victory in that state if they all show up at the polls. It might not keep another one hundred U.S. troops from dying between now and November, but a turn out to vote by the military against this heart breaking lack of leadership can make a powerful statement that hastens a change to the indifference of this shallow little man who just lets our soldiers die.

Veterans: Please forward to your lists. High Priority!

Jon Stewart Slays The Food Stamp Fraud Dragon In One Hilarious Clip

Every six months to a year, the Fox "News" crew gets around to attacking the poor, those on food stamps, and others not like them because, you know, hate and stuff. And the results, after Jon Stewart slices them up and serves them raw with his own special verbal jiujitsu sauce, are deliciously hilarious.

The original is from "The Daily Show With Jon Stewart," which has the same clip but divided into two segments (1 and 2). So I found it on Hulu for you. You're welcome. Also, if you are not in the United States and Hulu blocks you, here's a quick solution.

Facebook Censoring Conservatives?

Friends,

Lately we’ve noticed some funny goings on with our Facebook traffic — it has dropped precipitously. Could it be that conservative content is being censored? Wouldn’t put it past the Left.

After all, Mark Zuckerberg is a big Obama supporter. However I thought for sure a free-market entrepreneur like Zuckerberg supported the First Amendment as well, but who knows these days…

The World’s Biggest Bank Vault

Dear Reader,

In October, a Chinese group bought the Chase Manhattan Plaza in lower Manhattan – a 60-story tower built by banking legend David Rockefeller.

The Chinese buying major U.S. assets is nothing new. But there was something very unusual about this purchase.

Five stories below the city streets, the building houses the largest bank vault in the world.

It’s larger than a football field and anchored to the bedrock with steel rods. It was built to withstand a nuclear bomb.

This was no ordinary real estate transaction.

But we think we have uncovered what the Chinese have planned. It’s a situation we’ve been investigating for more than five years.

It's an amazing story we think will affect every American.

And we've put together all the details in an analysis you can access on our website, free of charge, here.

Sincerely,

George Rayburn

Friends,
This week President Obama broke out his pen again and signed off on an executive order that changes rules on overtime pay. This follows his use of that infamous pen to change minimum wage earnings. All of this comes from someone who’s never even run a lemonade stand.
So here we are with a president who seemingly hasn’t a clue how businesses operate. But he does know how to play to the masses and offer trite rhetoric like “income inequality” in order to buy votes.
In the end, employers are demonized as Obama seems the great savior from on high. What employers and those who reside in the world of reality must do is sit with their employees on a regular basis and explain the adverse effects of Obama’s inane game of thrones as it affects them. There’s only one way to combat the propaganda emanating from the “bully pulpit” and that is to have regular conversations.
If we don’t make it personal, as liberal progressives do, then we lose. We have to look Americans in the eye and sincerely and factually articulate how Obama and his apostles do not care. We have the power of the truth – we should use it.

Friends,

Some might call me “alarmist” or “Islamophobic” because of the stories we report, but that’s only because the mainstream media refuse to report the truth.

Now we learn there’s more than a “smidgen of corruption” at the IRS — there just may be treason.

Mohammad Weiss Rasool, busted by the FBI several years ago for spying on behalf of al-Qaida, reportedly now works for the deputy IRS chief financial officer as a financial management analyst. Yes, you read that correctly. A convicted al-Qaida spy is gainfully employed by our government in the IRS.

Unbelievable? Sadly, no.

Steadfast and Loyal,

Remembering....

Please join me in remembering a great icon of the entertainment community. The Pillsbury Doughboy died yesterday of a yeast infection and trauma complications from repeated pokes in the belly. He was 71. Doughboy was buried in a lightly greased coffin.

Dozens of celebrities turned out to pay their respects, including Mrs. Butterworth, Hungry Jack, the California Raisins, Betty Crocker, the Hostess Twinkies, and Captain Crunch. The grave site was piled high with flours.

Aunt Jemima delivered the eulogy and lovingly described Doughboy as a man who never knew how much he was kneaded. Doughboy rose quickly in show business, but his later life was filled with turnovers. He was considered a very smart cookie, but wasted much of his dough on half-baked schemes. Despite being a little flaky at times, he still was a crusty old man and was considered a positive roll model for millions.

Doughboy is survived by his wife, Play dough, three children: John Dough, Jane Dough and Dosey Dough, plus they had one in the oven. He is also survived by his elderly father, Pop tart.

The funeral was held at 3:50 for about 20 minutes.

If this made you smile for even a brief second, please rise to the occasion and take time to pass it on and share that smile with someone else who may be having a crumby day and kneads a lift.

How Much Will A Brain Cost?

In the hospital where a family member lay gravely ill, the relatives gathered
in the waiting room. Finally, the doctor came in looking tired and somber.

"I'm afraid I'm the bearer of bad news," he said as he surveyed the worried faces.
"The only hope left for your loved one at this time is a brain
transplant. It's an experimental procedure, very risky, but it is the
only hope. Insurance will cover the procedure, but you will have to pay
for the Brain."

The family members sat silent as they absorbed the news. After a time, someone
asked, "How much will a brain cost?"  The doctor quickly responded, "$5,000 for a Democrat's brain; $200 for a
Republican's brain."

The moment turned awkward. Some of the Democrats actually had to try not to smile,
avoiding eye contact with the Republicans. A man unable to control his
curiosity, finally blurted out the question everyone wanted to ask, "Why
is the Democrat's brain so much more than a Republican's brain?"

The doctor smiled at the childish innocence and explained to the entire group,
"It's just standard pricing procedure. We have to price the Republicans'
brains a lot lower because they're used."

Send This To A Republican Who Needs A Laugh, And To Any Democrat Whom You
Think Can Handle A Joke!

"Any man who thinks he can be happy and prosperous by letting the Government take
care of him; better take a closer look at the American Indian."

In Wood County Ohio, 106,258 voted in a county with only 98,213 eligible voters.

In St. Lucie County, FL, there were 175,574 registered eligible voters but 247,713 votes were cast.

The National SEAL Museum, a polling location in St. Lucie County, FL had a 158% voter turnout.

Not Skeered Anymore

Billy Ray went to a psychiatrist. "I've got problems. Every time I go to bed, I think there's somebody under it. I'm scared. I think I'm going crazy." "Put yourself in my hands for one year," said the shrink. "Come talk to me three times a week, and we should be able to get rid of those fears." "How much do you charge?" "Eighty dollars per visit," replied the psychiatrist. "I'll sleep on it," said Billy Ray. Six months later the psychiatrist met Billy Ray on the street. "Why didn't you ever come to see me about those fears you were having?" asked the psychiatrist. "Well, eighty bucks a visit three times a week for a year is an awful lot of money! A bartender cured me for $10. I was so happy to have saved all that money I went and bought me a new pickup!" "Is that so! And how, may I ask, did a bartender cure you?" "He told me to cut the legs off the bed! Ain't nobody under there now."

Cheerwine is a cherry-flavored soft drink produced by the Carolina Beverage Corporation of Salisbury, North Carolina. It has been produced since 1917 by "the oldest continuing soft drink company still run by the same family".

Overview and history

When the Maysville Syrup Company of Maysville, Kentucky went bankrupt in 1917, L.D. Peeler and other invested businessmen moved the company to North Carolina and renamed it the Carolina Beverage Corporation. That same year, Peeler purchased a recipe for a cherry flavored soda from a Saint Louis flavor salesman, which eventually became Cheerwine. Though it had been around since 1917, Cheerwine first became a registered trademark in 1926.

Cheerwine has a mildly sweet flavor with strong cherry notes, most notably black cherry; is burgundy-colored, and has an unusually high degree of carbonation compared to other soft drinks. The product was named for its color and taste; the company website states that "it made sense to name a burgundy-red, bubbly, cherry concoction—Cheerwine."  The "Retro Cheerwine" variant is sold in glass bottles and is sweetened with cane sugar instead of high-fructose corn syrup. Despite its name, Cheerwine is not really a wine and contains no alcohol.

The company also markets Cheerwine flavored ice cream, sherbet, and cream bars, mainly in Food Lion, a Salisbury-based supermarket chain. A commercially-baked Cheerwine cake, based on an old Southern recipe, became available through a Salisbury-based company in 2008.

In 2009, the company began a re-branding campaign designed to revamp the drink's image, especially among younger consumers. The re-branding called for a redesign of the Cheerwine packaging, with a new, retro-style logo based on an early Cheerwine logo.

In 2010, Cheerwine partnered with the North Carolina-based donut company, Krispy Kreme, and released a limited-offered Cheerwine flavored donut on July 1 of that year. It was sold only at select grocery stores for the month of July, and at the Salisbury Krispy Kreme. The Cheerwine doughnut returned again in July 2011.

Morgan Shepherd ran an entry in the Nascar Busch Series (now the Nationwide Series) in the mid-1990's with Cheerwine sponsorship.

Availability

Cheerwine is available in much of the southeastern United States, from West Virginia south to Florida, but is better known in the Carolinas and Virginia. Other spots to find Cheerwine are the many "specialty soda" stores throughout the country. In addition, it is also available in Norway

In April 2005, other regions of the United States began to bottle Cheerwine, mainly through Pepsi distributors.

A fan-created website, CheerwineFinder.com, was launched with the purpose of enabling people to find and identify local Cheerwine retailers.

On March 9, 2011, the New York Times Diner's Journal referred to "The Expanding Cult of Cheerwine."

On April 5, 2011, the company announced plans for nationwide distribution by 2017, which would be the product's 100th anniversary. The same day, the company also introduced a new advertising campaign, "Born in the South. Raised in a glass." At the time, Cheerwine was available in 12 percent of the nation. Radio commercials include "The Caper", where criminals left everything from a store except Cheerwine; and "Battle of the Bulge", in which a soldier from the Salisbury area has two bottles sent to him during World War II and gives one to his friend.

Also in April 2011, Cheerwine announced it was searching for a woman to represent the company as "Miss Cheerwine." Candidates had be 21 to 25 years old and live in Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, or Virginia. A company spokesperson stated, "We’re looking for a poised, enthusiastic young woman who can help us spread the legend and get Cheerwine into the hands of our fans with charm, confidence, sweetness and a sense of fun." On June 3, 2011, Spencer Cummings, named the first Miss Cheerwine, began the Miss Cheerwine Summer Legend Tour.

On October 18, 2011, Cheerwine announced plans to partner with Pepsi Beverages Co. in Florida, Atlanta, and Memphis, Tennessee. The same week, the company began using glass bottles to distribute the "Original 1917 Formula" with sugar, as well as introducing 12-pack cans.

Cheerwine has sponsored the North Carolina band the Avett Brothers on tour.

Green Room (White House)

The Green Room is one of three state parlors on the first floor in the White House, the home of the President of the United States. It is used for small receptions and teas. During a state dinner, guests are served cocktails in the three state parlors before the president, first lady, and visiting head of state descend the Grand Staircase for dinner. The room is traditionally decorated in shades of green.

The room is approximately 28 feet by 22½ feet (approx. 8.5m x 6.8m). It has six doors, which open into the Cross Hall, East Room, South Portico, and Blue Room.

Furnishings

Descriptions of the Green Room's furnishings before the 1814 fire are limited. Following the 1816 rebuilding, inventories suggest the room initially contained French Empire items bought by President James Madison. Throughout most of the 19th century, the room was decorated in a series of revival styles. In 1902, a major renovation, guided by historical research, was implemented by the architectural firm of McKim, Mead, and White. Layers of complex Victorian ornamentation were replaced by a style called Colonial Revival, which was more similar to how the house was initially furnished. Heavily patterned floral wall covering was replaced by a simple green silk velvet. The c. 1852 Renaissance Revival mantel was replaced by a French Empire mantel purchased by President Monroe in 1819. A suite of reproduction French Directoire upholstered chairs and white painted caned reproduction English Regency furniture replaced a suite of overstuffed Turkish style sofas and chairs. Subsequent 20th-century presidents mostly maintained what could be described as a "Colonial" appearance with largely reproduction furniture.

The Green Room in 1964, looking northeast, showing decor adopted during the administration of John F. Kennedy, and with a chandelier substitution made at the request of new first lady Lady Bird Johnson.

The Kennedy restoration, begun in 1961, brought a more academic yet dramatic approach to the decoration of the Green Room. Henry Francis du Pont of the Winterthur Museum, with influence of French interior designer Stéphane Boudin, selected the Federal Style for the Green Room. Several significant pieces of antique furniture were acquired and placed in the room. Chief among these were a sofa once belonging to Daniel Webster and John and Abigail Adam's neoclassical silver hot-water urn. A labeled secretary, made by Baltimore cabinetmaker Joseph Burgess, was placed between the windows on the south wall. Four lolling chairs, or "Martha Washington" chairs, upholstered in a white and green neoclassically patterned silk, were acquired. A late 18th-century English Axminster carpet in a neoclassical pattern of an architectural medallion surrounded by rosettes, and anthemion in shades of taupe, sage green and pink was donated by an anonymous donor. The walls of the Green Room were hung with a moss green watered-silk chosen by Jacqueline Kennedy and Stéphane Boudin in 1962 and manufactured in France by Tassinari et Chatel. Many changes occurred during the Nixon administration under the direction of First Lady Pat Nixon. Clement Conger, the new White House curator appointed during the Nixon administration, had completed substantial Chippendale and neoclassical interiors at the United States Department of State. In the Green Room, as well as in the Blue and Red rooms, Conger addressed correcting the generic traditional plaster moldings installed during the Truman reconstruction, installing historically accurate crown molding and ceiling medallions. Conger commissioned Edward Vason Jones and David Byers to design new draperies of striped cream, green, and coral silk satin. Conger and Jones cited illustrations shown in an early 19th-century pattern book belonging to the Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities (now called Historic New England). Coral and gilt ornamental cornices were constructed and installed above the windows. They are topped by hand-carved, gilded American eagles with outspread wings, a favorite decorative motif of the Federal period. The cornices are similar to those in the library of the Miles Brewton House in Charleston, South Carolina, and the South Drawing Room of the Sir John Soane House in London. The American textile workshop of Franco Scalamandré produced a copy of the Kennedy era moss green watered silk to be rehung on the walls. On the west wall above a Duncan Phyfe sofa, hang a pair of gilded girandole bull's eye wall sconces. Today the room contains several major pieces by the Scottish-born New York cabinetmaker Duncan Phyfe. They include a pair of work tables, side chairs with scroll arms, two card tables, and a pair of window benches. These replaced the more delicate Federal-era furniture approved by Mr. DuPont and Mrs. Kennedy in 1962.

McKim, Mead, and White renovation of the Green Room in 1904 during the administration of Theodore Roosevelt.

The Green Room was refurbished during the summer of 2007 by First Lady Laura Bush with advisement from the Committee for the Preservation of the White House, Bush family interior designer Ken Blasingame, and White House curator William Allman. The refurbishment retained most of the Nixon-era Conger and Vason Jones design. Walls were again hung in a watered silk, a treatment originating during the Kennedy restoration, but this time in a more vertical and largely scaled moiré pattern of a darker shade. The coral color in the upholstered chairs and in the striped drapery fabric was intensified to a more vibrant shade, bordering on vermilion. The drapery recreates Edward Vason Jones' 1971 design but with the more intense vermilion in the silk and the painted cornice. The drapery design was simplified by removing four large tassels but retained the large bobble-fringe of the Nixon-era design. The green Turkish Kilim carpet installed in the Nixon administration was replaced by a new rug woven in the style of a French Savonnerie. It is somewhat similar in design to an antique Savonnerie acquired for the Red Room by Stéphane Boudin. As a part of the refurbishment the painting The Builders by Jacob Lawrence was acquired for the Green Room by the White House Acquisition Trust. The Builders and Sand Dunes at Sunset, Atlantic City by Henry Ossawa Tanner are the only two paintings by African-American artists in the White House permanent collection.

Refurbishments of the White House's historic rooms happen on a regular basis. Input from the current first family, along with reference to historical documents and sometimes new research help guide the decisions of the committee and curator.

History

The room was intended by architect James Hoban to be the "Common Dining Room." Thomas Jefferson did use it as a dining room and covered the floor with a green-colored canvas for protection. It was in the Green Room that William Wallace Lincoln, the third son of President Abraham Lincoln, was embalmed following his death, most likely from typhoid fever. Over the years, presidents and first ladies have used the room for happier times as well. Grace Goodhue Coolidge displayed what some considered risqué Art Deco sculpture here and used the room for small parties with friends. Eleanor Roosevelt entertained Amelia Earhart here, and President Kennedy thought it the most attractive and restful room on the state floor. James Madison declared war on the British in this very room! Soon after, it got burnt like the other rooms.

Something Every American Must Read

DO NOT ADD A SINGLE WORD

Yes, he told us in advance what he planned to do. Few were listening.
The following is a narrative taken from a 2008 Sunday morning televised "Meet The Press'.
From Sunday's 07 Sept.2008 11:48:04 EST, Televised "Meet the Press" THE THEN Senator Obama was asked about his stance on the American Flag.
General Bill Gann' USAF (ret.)asked Obama to explain WHY he doesn't follow protocol when the National Anthem is played.

The General stated to Obama that according to the United States Code, Title 36,Chapter 10,Sec.171...
During rendition of the national anthem, when the flag is displayed, all present (except those in uniform) are expected to stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. Or, at the very least,"Stand and Face It".
NOW GET THIS !!
Senator Obama replied :
"As I've said about the flag pin, I don't want to be perceived as taking sides". "There are a lot of people in the world to whom the American flag is a symbol of oppression.." "The anthem itself conveys a war-like message. You know, the bombs bursting in air and all that sort of thing."
(ARE YOU READY FOR THIS???)
Obama continued : "The National Anthem should be 'swapped' for something less parochial and less bellicose. I like the song 'I'd Like To Teach the World To Sing." If that were our anthem, then, I might salute it. In my opinion, we should consider reinventing our National Anthem as well as 'redesign' our Flag to better offer our enemies hope and love. It's my intention, if elected, to disarm America to the level of acceptance to our Middle East Brethren. If we, as a Nation of warring people, conduct ourselves like the nations of Islam, where peace prevails - - -perhaps a state or period of mutual accord could exist between our governments   ....."
When I become President, I will seek a pact of agreement to end hostilities between those who have been at war or in a state of enmity, and a freedom from disquieting oppressive thoughts. We as a Nation, have placed upon the nations of Islam, an unfair injustice which is WHY my wife disrespects the Flag and she and I have attended several flag burning ceremonies in the past".
"Of course now, I have found myself about to become the President of the United States and I have put my hatred aside. I will use my power to bring CHANGE to this Nation, and offer the people a new path. My wife and I look forward to becoming our Country's First black Family. Indeed, CHANGE is about to overwhelm the United States of America"
Yes, you read it right.
I, for one, am speechless!!!

It’s What You Learn After You Know It All That Counts

My Uncle Mike always told me, “Change is inevitable – except from a vending machine.”

He also observed that some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes at the same time.

The world changes constantly. Unless you change with it, you’re destined for mediocrity or worse.

If you don’t stay abreast of new developments in technology and changes in the marketplace, you will be left far behind … or, at best, you’ll experience only a portion of the success that might have been yours.

The good news – make that the great news – is that you don’t have to live your life “just like always.” You can choose to build a successful business. You can choose to change careers. You can choose to get better.

You can choose to change.

Status Quo – That’s Latin for “The Mess We’re In”

Change. Every time I heard the word as a kid, I would flinch a little. It usually meant Ihad to fix something – as in change the tire or change the oil in the car. I’m not the handiest guy around so, sooner or later, I was going to be in grease right up to my elbows.

More often than not it meant I had to fix me – as in “You’d better change your ways!”

Either way, I was in trouble.

Today the word doesn’t bother me at all because I realize that you cannot grow without change. If you can’t change your mind, you can’t change anything. Change is the hinge on which your life turns. And when you’re building a spare-time business, don’t kid yourself … your life is at a turning point.

What all business builders want is progress – but you can’t have it without change. The person who never changes his opinion, never corrects his mistakes. And the road to success is always under construction.

What succeeded yesterday often fails today. Consider what the founder of the IBM, Thomas Watson, once said: “There is a world market for about 5 computers.” Luckily, Mr. Watson was able to change. Would there even be an IBM today had he not?

You can’t become what you were meant to be by remaining what you are. I’ve heard it said that only fools and dead men don’t change their minds. Fools won’t. Dead men can’t.

When you change, your opportunities will change. The same kind of thinking that got you to where you are, will not necessarily get you to where you want to go.

But when patterns and tradition are broken, new opportunities come together. Progress comes from those who are not satisfied to leave well enough alone.

Only Hungry Minds Can Grow

Have you ever noticed how many people you know are literally in the same place they’ve been for years?

They have the same dreams, the same opportunities, the same problems and the same alibis they’ve always had. They have simply refused to change.

Why?

Because their minds are like concrete – all mixed up and permanently set.

It’s a hard truth, but whatever you’ve got, you’ve traded time for. Whatever you’re not, you haven’t made time for. The secret of your future is hidden in your daily routine.

I’m sort of a fanatic about this. I always have something to read or write whenever I have any spare time.

I’m always trying to learn something and I’m not real picky from whom I learn it. It’s been said that the passion of the protégé can be measured by his pursuit of his mentor.

From one person, I may learn what to do, while from another, I learn what not to do and why not to do it. I try to learn from the mistakes of others, because I’ll never live long enough to make all the mistakes myself.

You can learn more from a wise person who is wrong than you can from a fool who is right. The best way to keep growing is to never stop learning. Only hungry minds can grow.

Life changes and teaches us by giving us new problems. Your rewards in life are determined by the kinds of problems you solve for others.

With learning you gain knowledge. Act on that knowledge and you gain experience.

Experience is a permanent possession that keeps us from repeating the past in the future.

With knowledge and experience you gain wisdom. If you want to increase your wealth, you have to increase your wisdom.

Automotive designer and motorcar racing legend Carroll Shelby once asked, “Speed costs – how fast do you want to go?”

Pathogens in Your Mouth Can Lead to Cancer In Other Parts Of Your Body

Oral Pathogens

Story at-a-glance +

By Dr. Mercola

Good oral hygiene is even more important than previously thought. Pathogenic microorganisms and their toxins can harm more than just your mouth when they circulate through your bloodstream—they can potentially cause secondary infections and chronic inflammation throughout your body.

The fact that oral pathogens can make their way to distant parts of your anatomy and cause serious problems has been known for many years.

Even dentists would agree that bacteria can pass from your gums into your bloodstream and on to your heart, which is why some still prescribe oral antibiotics to a few select patients with a particularly high risk for endocarditis, particularly if they have gingivitis.

But it appears that the rare case of endocarditis is only the tip of the iceberg. Several studies now show that these oral pathogens—viruses as well as bacteria—may be linked to certain cancers, making it even more important to do take every step possible to ensure your teeth and gums stay healthy.

Poor Oral Health Is a Risk Factor for Oropharyngeal Cancers

The human papillomavirus (HPV), some strains of which are associated with cervical cancer if left untreated for long periods of time, has similarly been linked to vaginal, vulvar, penile, anal, and oropharyngeal cancers (cancers of the throat, tonsils, and base of tongue).

Hence the ridiculous recommendation to vaccinate boys with the notorious HPV vaccine, Gardasil, which is riddled with dangerous side effects and other problems. A new study published in the journal Cancer Prevention Research reports:
"Poor oral health, which includes dental problems and gum disease, is an independent risk factor for oral HPV infection, and by extension, could also contribute to oral cancers."
In this study, participants with poor oral health had a 56 percent higher rate of HPV infection than those with healthy mouths. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that about 60 percent of oropharyngeal cancers are related to HPV, but according to the latest study, it could be as high as 80 percent.
The researchers speculate that good oral hygiene could help prevent HPV infection, thereby lowing your risk for oropharyngeal and other cancers. Human papillomavirus is actually a group of more than 100 viruses. Of those 100, about 40 are sexually transmitted, and 15 of those are the types most often associated with cervical cancers and genital warts.
It is important to note that more than 90 percent of women infected with HPV clear the infection naturally within two years, at which point their cervical cells return to normal. It is only when the HPV virus lingers for many years (that is, becomes chronic) that abnormal cervical cells could turn into cancer.

This is why regularly scheduled PAP smears prevent cervical cancer deaths far more effectively than the HPV vaccine ever will, because they allow a sufficient amount of time to find and treat any cervical abnormalities.

Viruses Cause 15 to 20 Percent of All Cancers

It is interesting to note that HPV isn't the only virus linked to cancer—in fact, it is estimated that 15 to 20 percent of all cancers are caused by viruses! Many viruses trigger cancer by suppressing your immune system and/or altering your genes. The following viruses are known to play a major role in certain types of cancer:
  • EBV (Epstein-Barr virus) increases your risk for nasopharyngeal cancer, certain lymphomas and stomach cancer
  • Hepatitis B and C are linked to liver cancer
  • HIV is associated with invasive cervical cancer, lymphoma, lung cancer, liver cancer, anal cancer, oropharyngeal cancer, skin cancer and Kaposi's sarcoma; Herpes virus 8 is also thought to be involved with almost all cases of Kaposi's sarcoma

Three New Studies Prove Oral Bacteria Can Cause Colorectal Cancer

There is one bacterium that has been causing a great deal of trouble with people's health: Fusobacterium nucleatum, a spindle-shaped anaerobic bacterium commonly found in dental plaque. F. nucleatum is abundant in your mouth and able to coaggregate with other species. Three recent studies have linked F. nucleatum with serious health problems:
  1. Case Western Reserve University researchers found that some malignant colorectal tumors are caused by F. nucleatum
  2. Harvard researchers also established a link between F. nucleatum and the initiation of colorectal tumors
  3. A study in Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology found that oral F. nucleatum can lead to intrauterine infection and even stillbirth
The first two studies establish an actual causal link between this bacteria and colorectal cancer. The bacteria trigger inflammation and also activate the cancer growth genes and the signals required for angiogenesis to occur (a tumor's blood supply). Normally, F. nucleatum is not prevalent in your gut, but if your microbial balance is off—which can happen in your mouth, as well as in your gut—then it's able to invade and colonize. F. nucleatum has been found in gut mucosal biopsies that show inflammation and in biopsies of colorectal tumors.
The third study discusses an unusual case of a mother losing her baby to stillbirth due to an intrauterine infection, directly resulting from gingivitis. The bacteria moved from her mouth to her uterus because her immune system was weakened by a respiratory infection. Other studies have shown these bacteria to cause stillbirths in mice, but this was the first documented human case.
All of these studies unequivocally show that bacterial imbalances and dysbiosis can contribute to inflammation in your body and activate cancer genes. Therefore, the bacteria in your mouth deserve as much care and attention as the ones in your gut. Not surprisingly, they're interrelated, and as you improve your gut flora, the flora in your mouth improves accordingly. I experienced this myself. When I started consuming fermented vegetables, it only took a few months before I was able to reduce the frequency of my visits to my dental hygienist for a persistent plaque problem.

Another Danger: A Mouthful of Mercury

Besides oral hygiene, which I'll be discussing shortly, there are two other dental-related concerns you may need to address: mercury amalgams and fluoride. The average American has eight mercury amalgams (fillings), falsely described as "silver" fillings. This misleading label has been purposely used to keep you in the dark about the exact composition of the fillings, which are actually about 50 percent mercury. Mercury is a toxic heavy metal that can poison your brain, central nervous system and kidneys. Children and fetuses, whose brains are still developing, are most at risk—but anyone can be adversely impacted.
Mercury is such a potent toxin that just one drop in a lake would poison the lake to the extent that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) would ban fishing in it. Yet, they claim that carrying around a mouthful of mercury fillings has no harmful effects. If you have mercury amalgams, it would be advisable to consult a holistic, mercury-free dentist.

Steer Clear of Fluoride in Any Form

If you are using fluoridated toothpaste, you may want to consider tossing it out and replacing it it with a safe one. In the mornings, you could use toothpaste containing calcium and phosphate salts, or even hydroxyapatite, which can help remineralize your teeth. Baking soda will help promote beneficial bacteria in your mouth by neutralizing the acid that pathogenic bacteria thrive in. I use an oral irrigator with baking soda twice a day and follow with coconut oil pulling for 20 minutes.
Fluoride is of little or no benefit to your teeth and poses serious health risks, including immune dysfunction, endocrine disruption, increased risk of fractures, arthritis, infertility, and many more.
Toothpaste isn't the only source of fluoride—it is present in growing numbers of non-organic foods from pesticide residue (including iceberg lettuce). And fluoride continues to be added to many municipal water supplies in the United States. Water fluoridation has come under increasing scrutiny as health concerns, lack of efficacy in preventing tooth decay and ethical issues of administering chemicals via the water supply have surfaced. For more information on fluoride, please watch the presentation by Michael Connett, an attorney with the Fluoride Action Network in this previous article.

Four Strategies for Improving Your Oral Health

The latest research uncovering the connection between the microorganisms in your mouth and cancer make it extraordinarily clear that oral hygiene is a necessary prerequisite if you want to be healthy. Major problems can result from the overgrowth of opportunistic oral pathogens, including oropharyngeal cancers, colorectal cancer, and if you're an expectant mother, even the tragedy of stillbirth. In addition to avoiding fluoride and mercury fillings, my top four recommendations for optimizing your oral health are as follows:
  1. Consume a traditional diet: fresh fruits and vegetables, grass-pastured meats, poultry, eggs, and dairy; nuts and seeds; minimal consumption of sugar and processed food
  2. Add in some naturally fermented foods, such as sauerkraut, pickles, kimchee, yogurt, kefir
  3. Proper brushing and flossing
  4. Oil pulling
A traditional diet will help balance both your oral and gastrointestinal flora, but it may not be enough to guarantee perfect oral health. I've struggled with plaque for years, and it wasn't until I added fermented foods and oil pulling that I began to make progress with the problem. The addition of fermented foods decreased my plaque by 50 percent and made it much softer, and the oil pulling has improved it further.

Melanoma Patient's Last Wish Includes Warning About Tanning Beds

Washington, Oregon and Idaho are all considering bills that would make it illegal for minors to use tanning beds. Meet a young woman who regrets the day she first walked into a tanning salon and why she's making a special appeal now.
Ashley Trenner used to think a bronze glow made her look younger. That's why she was so determined to keep it year round.

“I used to say that I don't care if I die from tanning as long as I die tan,” said Ashley. “I used to say that. I don't think that way anymore."

When we first met Ashley back in 2011, she was already on her third clinical trial, battling melanoma, the most deadly kind of skin cancer. She was traveling to and from Portland every week, desperately hoping that this time she'd finally beat it for good.

Last May 16, a major milestone:  Ashley celebrated the big 40 with her parents Bob and Karen and a crowd of friends.

“I think there were about a hundred people there,” said Ashley’s mother Karen. “They just had a grand time as we did celebrating her 40th year, thinking that she may not make 41st.”

Nine months later, the tumors are too numerous to count.

“Head to about right here - that's where most all of my pain is. All the tumors are in pretty much that area,” said Ashley.

It’s the end of a journey.

“So as far as treatment right now, done,” said Ashley.

Ashley has called a truce with cancer, but not with tanning beds. She wants to warn everyone who will listen.

“I paid. I paid money to be in the position I am now,” she said. “It wasn't just like I wanted to be tan. I was literally paying someone to get this terrible disease that's killing me. That is killing me. Terminal.”

Even the standard “one day at a time” no longer applies in Ashley’s household.

“Half a day at a time. When we met with the doctor before we brought her home, which was three weeks ago, he says she has weeks to live,” said Ashley’s mother.

Ashley's now hooked up to pain medication and confined to bed. Tumors have paralyzed the right side of her face. But she's hasn't given up on style.

“Wonderful people that come do my nails and toes,” said Ashley.

In typical Ashley fashion, she insists it's not over until it's over. Besides, she still has her will to finish. She says it’s hard, but not for the reason you might think.

“I want to be fair to everybody,” she said.

Also typical Ashley. And don't get her wrong. She's grateful too. If not for cancer, she might not have mended her relationship with her parents.

“Through that blossomed a beautiful relationship that I wouldn't trade for anything. Anything,” said Ashley. “So yes it took cancer to get us to where we are, but I wouldn't change that.”

“So a sad time but a special time. It's kind of a bittersweet time for us and our family,” said Ashley’s dad, Bob.

As for Ashley, she only has one last wish.

“If there's one person's life that I can affect, then that's a beautiful gift that I could give to somebody ‘cause I don't want them to end up like me at all,” said Ashley. “It's just not worth it. I can't express that enough. It's just not worth it.”

Ashley was first diagnosed with melanoma more than seven years ago at age 33. She started tanning as a teen.
